Garmin forerunner 910. And a really fancy power meter.
Favourite “healthy” food:
Favourite “unhealthy” food:
Montreal bagel with cream cheese and lox. And wine.
To reward myself after a race I like to:
Eat a smoked meat sandwich and have a cold beer
My race day routine:
Wake up. Eat oatmeal. BRB. Head to race. Set up. BRB. Inspect transition area, Do a swim warm up. BRB. Take a deep breath and hope to survive.
I started doing triathlons because…
Because I got bored. I lived in Montreal my entire life and had a cottage in the Eastern Townships. I lived across from Lachine Rapids, where I paddled every day of the summer. In the Fall and Spring we hiked and in the winter we snowboarded every weekend. Then, I moved here, hours away from any good whitewater and mountains…. I really struggled to find something that would keep me busy, active and outside.
Ottawa 70.3, because everything came together beautifully. I had so much fun. And Orillia…my first love!
The race I’ve never done but always wanted to:
Escape from Alcatraz
I am more of an outdoorsy person than a gym rat. I grew up skiing and snowboarding. I love hiking. My vacations are geared toward scuba diving. But my ultimate favourite thing in the world is whitewater kayaking. I ran my first rapid 20 years ago and will never forget that feeling.
Favourite place to train:
Beachburg, in the Ottawa Valley
Swimming Lake Wilcox on Saturday morning (although the water is gross!).
When not training I like to…
Paddle.. what else!
What drives me to compete:
Prove to myself that I can do it
What motivates me to train:
Wanting to do better.
Favourite things to do when not training:
Mmm… paddling! But I also love our back-country camping, hiking, traveling, diving, and brunch.
Most exhilarating triathlon moment:
Crossing the finish line of Ottawa 70.3 in under 6 and half hours
What I’d like to accomplish in triathlon over the next 5 years:
I don’t like to think that far ahead. Life can change in an instant. I am more of “short term” girl. This year, get faster. Next year, who knows! Maybe do a half ironman somewhere interesting like Vietnam or Mexico
Countries I’ve visited:
Too many to list so I have narrowed it down to my top 5…
- Belize (for the diving and the people)
- Thailand (for the diving, the food and the people)
- India (for the beautiful mess that it is)
- Zambia (for the Zambezi River and Victoria Falls)
- Italy (for the hiking and the wine)
Languages I speak:
French is my mother tongue. I also get by in Spanish.
Favourite Chuck Norris fact:
Chuck Norris can slam a revolving door
People make fun of me because:
When I don’t know a word in English, I just make it up…
In a fantasy world, this is what every day of my life would look like:
Get up, check water levels, get in my kayak and go paddle! Come back to a cold beer and a bonfire. And it would always be sunny.
The one food item I could never give up:
Peanut Butter. It’s tasty, somewhat healthy and goes with everything.
Favourite ice cream flavour:
Plain old chocolate
Les Intouchables. Beautiful French movie that I highly recommend.
Favourite TV show:
The Mindy Project
A Fine Balance
The strangest fact that nobody would ever guess about me is…
I am French!
