Name: Matt Dubreuil

Nickname(s) and the story behind it/them: Dubbie (Taken from my last name)
Years competing: In my 4th year
2016 A race: Niagara Falls Barrelman
Goals for 2016: PR’s of course but looking to really nail the final leg.
Personal highlights from the past few years (can be athletic, career, etc): Finishing Ironman Lake Placid in 2015. This was my main reason for getting into this sport and I just happened to fall in love along the way. Now its so much more!
Favourite piece of gear: My Felt DA2 (Thanks Tommy… will never forget) … and a close second would be my P2M Power meter.
The one piece of gear I don’t have that I really want is: Still using the old Garmin 310xt. It works for me but technology has come a long way so I may be in the market in the near future.
Favourite “healthy” food: Greek yogurt and Granola.
Favourite “unhealthy” food: Ice cream
To reward myself after a race I like to: Have a Beer
My race day routine: Get up and attempt to eat one hour before I leave. The next part is touch and go… lots of things can happen after eating and before I leave. I’m typically an organized mess.
Guilty pleasures: Chocolate covered Almonds
I started doing triathlons/duathlons/running because…
I wanted to see if I could finish an Ironman. I’ve learned since then that the title is nice, but being a triathlete is so much more.
Favourite race: Even though I didn’t do as well as I would have liked on my first go… I’d have to say the Niagara Falls Barrelman.
The race I’ve never done but always wanted to: Ironman Mont Tremblant and of course… Kona.
Favourite place to train: Horseshoe Valley
Favourite workout: Tempo rides or Fartlek runs.
When not training I like to… Spend time with the family
What drives me to compete: I want to be better tomorrow than I am today.
What motivates me to train: Friends and teammates. Seeing everyone push their bodies to the limit makes me want it that much more.
Favourite things to do when not training: Spending time up at the lake relaxing with a cold beer.
Most exhilarating triathlon moment: My first sub 5hrs in a half ironman
What I’d like to accomplish in triathlon over the next 5 years: I want to be a contender in my age group.
Person I look up to and admire the most in the sport is: This is a new one for me but Andreas Raelert. Guy is a machine!
Morning person or night owl? Night Owl
The one food item I could never give up: Coffee… but I’m going to try.
Favourite ice cream flavour: Chocolate
Favourite colour: Red
Favourite Movie: Saving Private Ryan and Top Gun
